Michael Glinski was born in Warsaw Poland in 1977. His parents Wes and Elizabeth Glinski who are both architects and artists influenced Michael from a young age to pursue drawing and painting. Every time they had some project to do Michael was alongside to help out and to mimic their work. It was at an early age that Michael was already being recognized as a very talented artist. By age 5, he already knew how to draw in perspective and to create realistic depictions of the world around him. Throughout his youth he would enter in numerous art shows and competitions, where he was a recipient of several first place awards and best of show awards. While in High school Michael won the “Outstanding Senior Artist” scholarship award during his senior year. Throughout his life Michael and his family moved around the world to various countries while his parents were working on large scale architectural projects. Part of his childhood was spent in Poland, and also in Syria, where Michael learned his first foreign language-Arabic, next he attended an English speaking school and learned English. Upon his return to Poland he learned Russian since at the time Poland was still under communist rule. Eventually his whole family was able to leave Poland and its communist system behind, Michael’s entire family moved to central California where Michael attended High School. It was when Michael came to America that he was really able to tap into his artistic talents. It was then that all sorts of art supplies became readily available to him and his parents encouraged the talent to develop. By age 13 he was already painting artworks on a large scale and became a professional by selling his works and being commissioned to do custom designs. Since then Michael has created hundreds of paintings and sculptures. In 1995 he moved to Hawaii where he attended Hawaii Pacific University. There he took on International Relations and graduated with a Bachelors Degree. Although his major was not related to his true passion in life he thought it would be a great way to gain knowledge to help him deal with people of all sorts of nationalities and backgrounds. Michael is also quite a well traveled man and has been to many countries all around the world. During his college years he met his friend who was Palauan and ended up coming to Palau for a visit. It proved to be a life changing experience for Michael. Since then the only thought on his mind was to move to Palau and be surrounded by its incredible nature. The Palauan landscape mesmerized Michael to the point that he could not paint anything but Palau. For Five years he tried and tried to come to Palau but things didn’t quite work out. Then in 2003 it all fell into place and he made the big move. Michael together with his friend established the first ever Exclusive Fine Art Gallery in Palau. It was called Batutii Art Gallery. For two years he has been lucky enough to live and work in Palau, having an abundance of inspiration like never before. Whenever he goes out to the rock islands, whether by boat or kayak he gets bombarded with ideas for paintings. He has never been so prolific before, sometimes Michael can paint several paintings in just a few days. Since Michael’s works are in collections all around the world, the rock islands of Palau are getting more and more exposure than ever, especially in the art world. Whenever Michael travels to different countries he organizes art shows that showcase Palau’s natural beauty through his paintings. His latest showing was at the International Travel fair In Taipei, Taiwan, where he was acclaimed as a “Genius ocean artist from Palau” by the Taiwanese press. Its here in Palau that Michael has found his muse. Much like Gaguin chose Tahiti, Michael has chosen this incredible paradise that is Palau to be the subject of his artistic creations.
Michael has recently been mentioned in several Taiwanese press releases, including the TO GO Magazine and China Times Weekly. Locally he has been featured in the Palau Horizon Newspaper for winning the first place prize in the amateur cake decorating category in the first annual Bake and Brew Competition.
